- MT5 licence
An agreement with MetaQuotes to run the MetaTrader 5 platform under your company.
Offered in Entry, Standard and Enterprise tiers by number of real accounts.
- MetaQuotes
The company that develops MetaTrader 4 and MetaTrader 5.
It licenses MT5 directly to companies after a compliance review.
- White label
Using another company’s MetaTrader server under your brand.
Increasingly restricted; many brokers now move to their own licence.
- SumSub
The online identity verification MetaQuotes uses.
Completed by the authorised signatory and the UBO.
- UBO
Ultimate beneficial owner: the real person who owns or controls the company.
Must be identifiable behind any nominee or holding company.
- Legal opinion
A lawyer’s letter confirming the company may carry out its activities.
Used when no FX licence confirms the activity requirement.
- Bank reference letter
A bank’s letter confirming the company holds an account in good standing.
For MetaQuotes it should be addressed to MetaQuotes.
- Certificate of Incumbency
A document listing a company’s current directors, shareholders and officers.
Issued by the registered agent.
- Certificate of Good Standing
Proof that a company is compliant with its registry.
Required by MetaQuotes for companies older than six months.
- Forex licence
Authorisation from a regulator to provide FX/CFD services.
Examples: Mauritius FSC Investment Dealer, Bahamas SCB registration.
- FSC (Mauritius)
The Financial Services Commission, the regulator of non-bank financial services in Mauritius.
Issues Investment Dealer licences.
- Investment Dealer licence
The FSC licence used by FX/CFD brokers in Mauritius.
Commonly the Full Service Dealer excluding Underwriting category.
- GBC
Global Business Company: a Mauritius company for international business.
Holds the Investment Dealer licence.
- SCB (Bahamas)
The Securities Commission of The Bahamas.
Registers securities dealers under the Securities Industry Act 2024.
- MISA
The Mwali International Services Authority of Mohéli, Comoros.
Issues IBCs and International Brokerage licences.
- Anjouan (AOFA)
Another autonomous Comoros island issuing offshore licences.
Its licences face the same recognition questions as Mwali’s.
- IBC
International Business Company: an offshore company for business outside its jurisdiction.
A Saint Lucia IBC can support an MT5 licence without an FX licence.
- Substance
Real presence in a jurisdiction: office, staff and management.
Required by regulators such as the FSC and SCB.
- Stated capital
The capital a company declares or pays in.
Regulators set minimums by licence category.
- MLRO
Money Laundering Reporting Officer.
A required officer for regulated brokers.
- Compliance officer
The person responsible for regulatory compliance.
Often approved by the regulator.
- PSP
Payment service provider that processes client deposits and withdrawals.
A PSP confirmation letter can support a MetaQuotes file.
- STP
Straight-through processing: passing client orders to liquidity providers.
Often lower capital requirements than market making.
- Market maker
A broker that takes the other side of client trades.
Typically faces higher capital requirements.
- Jurisdiction disclaimer
A website statement of where the company does and does not offer services.
Required by MetaQuotes on your website.
- Prop trading firm
A company that funds traders who pass an evaluation.
Since 2024 prop firms need their own MT5 licence to offer MetaTrader.
- Domain ownership proof
Evidence that the applicant company owns its website domain.
A registrar invoice, certificate or account screenshot showing the company.
- Registered agent
A licensed provider that forms and maintains companies.
